Passaris Powers Multi Million Shilling Boost for Women, Education, and SGBV Survivors

By Steve El Sabai

Nairobi Woman Representative Hon Esther Passaris has spearheaded a powerful empowerment drive under the Wezesha Mama Inua Jamii Nairobi Chapter, delivering millions in support for women, students, and survivors of sexual and gender based violence (SGBV). The event, held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, united leaders and residents in a show of solidarity and action.

Passaris, celebrated for her steadfast advocacy for women’s rights, emphasised that true empowerment goes beyond policy as it is about tangible resources that transform lives. The initiative saw the distribution of KSh 28 million in Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) cheques, KSh 11 million in bursaries for needy students, and 200 white canes for visually impaired learners.

In a strong gesture of compassion and community solidarity, the Wezesha Fund also allocated KSh 250,000 to the Bomb Blast Association and donated 20 mattresses to Vijana Amani Pamoja (VAP), an organisation that supports SGBV survivors. Additionally, travel support was extended to eight SGBV survivors from VAP, enabling them to represent Kenya at the Homeless World Cup Football Tournament in Oslo, Norway.

Passaris underscored that economic empowerment and social justice must move hand in hand, calling on all leaders to stand firm in combating SGBV and femicide. “We must empower women not only economically but also ensure their safety, dignity, and access to justice,” she affirmed.

The event was graced by notable leaders whose presence amplified the united message, including Hon Karen Nyamu, Hon Hamida, Hon Beatrice Elachi, Hon Leah Sankaire who is Chairperson of KEWOPA, Faith Gitau, Senator Tabitha Mutinda, and Elizabeth Kailemia. Their combined support demonstrated that advancing gender equality is a shared responsibility requiring cross sector collaboration.

Beyond financial support, the gathering served as a rallying point to challenge societal norms that perpetuate violence and inequality. The multi pronged approach, spanning education, economic independence, safety, and international representation, reflected a holistic vision for women’s empowerment in Nairobi and across Kenya.

Passaris’ leadership continues to prove that when vision, resources, and unity converge, communities can be uplifted, opportunities expanded, and cycles of vulnerability broken. Her clarion call remains clear that Kenya must stand together to build a future where every woman and girl lives free from violence and is empowered to achieve her fullest potential.
