DCP Rallies Supporters Ahead of Rigathi Gachagua’s Return, Warns State Against Intimidation

By Steve El Sabai

The Democracy For The Citizens Party (DCP) has issued a strong warning to the government ahead of the much-anticipated return of its Party Leader, H.E. Rigathi Gachagua, who jets back into the country on Thursday, August 21, 2025, after a six-week stay in the United States.

In a hard-hitting press statement signed by Deputy Party Leader Senator Cleophas Malalah, the party cautioned security agencies against what it termed as unlawful intimidation, harassment, and violence targeting its supporters.

“We want to caution trigger-happy police officers who might be tempted to join the killing spree to know that the law will get you into the dock. Do not take any unlawful instructions from your seniors,” the statement read in part.

DCP claims it has intelligence that senior government officials, including Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, have allegedly held meetings and activated state-sponsored goons to disrupt Thursday’s reception. The party accused the duo of plotting to destroy property, harm citizens, and then blame the chaos on DCP supporters.

“Please Mr. Murkomen and Mr. Sakaja, do not burn this country with your irresponsibility and carelessness,” Malalah warned.

The statement further reminded President William Ruto that “he has used and dumped leaders before and will do the same again,” pointing to what it termed as betrayal of close allies.

At the center of the announcement is the return of Rigathi Gachagua, whose flight is expected to land at 12 noon at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). DCP has urged its supporters and “all peace-loving Kenyans” to throng the airport from 8 AM for a grand welcome.

The party dismissed any attempts to restrict access to JKIA, stressing that the facility is “a public property and not anybody’s personal airport.”

In the event of a diversion to Kisumu or Mombasa, DCP assured that supporters in those cities are ready to receive their leader, with “adequate plans and alternative logistics” already in place.

Following Gachagua’s arrival, the party has lined up a peaceful procession into Nairobi’s Central Business District, where the Deputy President-turned-opposition leader is expected to address thousands of Kenyans at various stopovers.

Calling on the Nairobi business community, the party also urged vigilance, alleging that government-backed militias had been hired to wreak havoc in the CBD and its environs.

“We are a peaceful people, and our meet-and-greet will be conducted as such. No amount of threats will deter us,” the party declared.

The stage is now set for what could be one of the most politically charged homecomings in recent history, as DCP positions Rigathi Gachagua as the face of a growing resistance movement against the Kenya Kwanza administration.
