Imwatok to Sue Blogger Cyprian Nyakundi Over “Defamatory” Article

Nairobi County Assembly Majority Leader Peter Imwatok has initiated legal action against controversial blogger Cyprian Nyakundi, accusing him of defamation. The move comes after Nyakundi published an article that Imwatok’s legal team claims was a malicious attack on his character and reputation.

Through his lawyer, Brenda Kogai, Imwatok asserts that the article was published with the sole intent of damaging his public standing and portraying him as a “political con man.” The demand letter from his legal team points to the headline “How Imwatok Pocketed Facilitation Fees Betraying Raila and Exposing Embattled Sakaja. Impeachment Threats” as a key piece of evidence.

“The said defamatory message was published in the most malicious manner to hurt the reputation, honor and standing of our client,” the letter reads.

“You clearly defamed our client by accusing our client of financial impropriety, allegedly pocketing facilitation fees meant for Members of the County Assembly of Nairobi.”

According to the letter, Imwatok claims Nyakundi was fully aware the allegations were false but proceeded with the publication anyway, causing significant harm to his reputation.

Imwatok has given Nyakundi a strict three-day deadline to comply with his demands.

The letter explicitly states, “TAKE NOTICE that unless our client receives an apology through the same medium used in defaming him within THREE (3) days and the above publication is immediately pulled down, we shall proceed to commence legal proceedings against you without further recourse at your own peril as to costs and other attendant risks and expenses.”

Failure to meet these demands will result in a lawsuit, with Imwatok seeking damages and an injunction against further publication of the alleged defamatory content.
