KSG Hosts Inter-Ministerial Talks on Natural Resource Policy

The Kenya School of Government (KSG) hosted an Inter-Ministerial Coordination Committee meeting on Tuesday to advance the development of an Integrated Natural Resource Management Policy.

The session, chaired by Deputy Head of Public Service Amos Gathecha and attended by KSG Director General Prof. Nura Mohammed, brought together senior officials from ministries, departments, and agencies to deliberate on a unified framework for managing Kenya’s natural resources.

Prof. Mohammed emphasized that cross-agency collaboration was essential in crafting a coherent policy. “Effective collaboration among institutions will ensure natural resources are managed sustainably, equitably, and in alignment with national development priorities,” he said.

The proposed policy aims to harmonize fragmented approaches, strengthen coordination mechanisms, and address emerging challenges in resource management. It is expected to guide the sustainable use of land, water, forests, and mineral resources, ensuring they contribute to inclusive growth and long-term development.

Officials noted that the framework will also enhance institutional synergies and promote accountability in resource governance. Once completed, the policy will serve as a reference point for ministries and agencies tasked with implementing natural resource programs.

The deliberations mark a significant step in Kenya’s effort to align natural resource management with its broader sustainability and economic transformation agenda.
