– The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Texas Cancer Center, Dr. Catherine Nyongesa, Kenya’s first female oncologist, has called for increased awareness and early screening as critical measures in the fight against breast cancer.
Speaking as the world marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, Dr. Nyongesa stressed that timely detection and proactive health practices can significantly reduce cancer-related deaths.
“Breast cancer continues to affect millions of women worldwide, and in Kenya, delayed diagnosis remains one of our greatest challenges,” Dr. Nyongesa said. “We must encourage regular screening, open conversations, and stronger support systems for those affected. Together, we can create a culture where early detection becomes the norm, not the exception.”
She added that while treatment options are advancing, prevention and early diagnosis remain the most effective strategies in saving lives.
The Texas Cancer Center, under Dr. Nyongesa’s leadership, has been at the forefront of cancer care and advocacy, providing comprehensive oncology services and leading nationwide campaigns to raise awareness.
This month, the Center is calling on individuals, communities, and institutions to spread hope, support, and strength while standing in solidarity with cancer warriors, survivors, and families across the country.
