The Chief Executive Officer of the National Land Commission (NLC), CHRP Kabale Tache Arero, has called for collective action to empower vulnerable girls in pastoralist communities, urging stakeholders to support education and mentorship initiatives.
Speaking at the launch and fundraising dinner of the Pastoralist Girls Mentorship Program (PGMP) held at the Best Western Plus Hotel in Nairobi, Arero emphasized that education is the ultimate equalizer in breaking cycles of poverty, harmful cultural practices, and inequality.
The PGMP, spearheaded by Caritas Marsabit, aims to safeguard girls in Marsabit County from Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), child marriage, and economic exploitation, while fostering education and leadership through its guiding vision of “one girl, one dream at a time.”
“We must rise beyond our comfort zones to create opportunities for these girls to dream, learn, and lead,” Arero said, reaffirming her personal commitment to championing initiatives that uplift marginalized youth.
The dinner drew a distinguished gathering of leaders and partners, including Rt. Rev. Peter Kihara Kariuki, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Marsabit; Hon. Prof. Guyo, MP for Moyale; H.E. Sabdiyo Dido Bashuna, Kenya’s High Commissioner to Botswana; H.E. Ahguyo, First Lady of Marsabit; and Adele Tura, GM HR at Total Kenya.
Organizers hailed the event as a milestone in mobilizing resources to protect the rights of girls and promote inclusive community development in northern Kenya.
