Githunguri MP Hon. Gathoni Wamuchomba has issued a sharp rebuke to Governor Kimani Wamatangi following reports of a disturbing rise in maternal and infant deaths across Kiambu County hospitals.
Recent health data revealed the loss of 165 infants and five mothers in county health facilities, figures Wamuchomba described as “alarming and unacceptable by every measure of human dignity.”
In her statement, the legislator accused the governor of trivializing the crisis after he dismissed the figures as “political smearing.” She said such remarks displayed “the highest form of contempt for the very people he was elected to serve.”
Wamuchomba emphasized that “the loss of even a single mother or child due to preventable causes cannot and should not be justified,” calling for urgent accountability and corrective action.
She urged national institutions, professional associations, and civil society organizations to intervene immediately to arrest what she termed a full-blown healthcare crisis in Kiambu.
“The people of Kiambu deserve a county government that takes responsibility, prioritizes healthcare, and treats human life with the utmost respect,” she said, adding that Governor Wamatangi’s “continued inaction and insensitivity have failed the people.”
The statement has further intensified the political heat in Kiambu, where residents and stakeholders are pressing for urgent reforms to stem preventable deaths in county hospitals.
