The Kenya Women Teachers Association (KEWOTA) today joined students and teachers at Ng’iya National Girls School to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child 2025, celebrated under the theme “The Girl I Am, the Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontline of Crisis.”
Representing KEWOTA Chief Executive Officer Ms. Benter Opande, the Deputy Coordinator for Kisumu County, Ms. Jemima Okoth, reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to empowering girls through education, mentorship, and leadership development.
“When we invest in girls, we invest in the future of our communities. Girls are not just tomorrow’s leaders — they are the change-makers of today,” said Ms. Opande in a message delivered by Ms. Okoth.
Ms. Okoth was accompanied by Madam Saisi Truphena (Retirees Coordinator), Ms. Mercy Adhiambo (Homa Bay County Coordinator), and other KEWOTA officials. The team also presented a cash donation to the event organizer, Miss KEWOTA 2023, in support of ongoing girl empowerment initiatives.
The celebration highlighted the resilience, creativity, and leadership potential of young girls, emphasizing the importance of inclusive education and creating safe spaces for girls to thrive and lead within their communities.
Under the leadership of Ms. Opande, KEWOTA continues to champion gender equity in education, strengthen mentorship programs, and promote the welfare of women teachers nationwide — ensuring that every girl has the opportunity to learn, lead, and succeed.
