Eng. Kinoti Unveils Nairobi Smart Traffic Management Centre to Revolutionize Urban Mobility

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has launched a Smart Traffic Management Centre at City Cabanas, marking a major milestone in efforts to modernize Nairobi’s transport infrastructure and improve traffic flow across the city.

The initiative, spearheaded by Director General Eng. Silas Kinoti, leverages advanced technology — including high-definition cameras, sensors, and real-time data analytics — to monitor and manage vehicle movement on key corridors. The system is designed to ease congestion, enhance road safety, and provide rapid responses to traffic incidents.

“We are laying the foundation of a Smart Traffic Management Centre, a system that will monitor movement across the city and deploy cameras at key corridors. The goal is simple — to make Nairobi move,” said Eng. Kinoti.

The Smart Centre will enhance collaboration between KURA, the National Police Service, and other transport agencies, enabling coordinated enforcement and quicker incident response. It will also generate critical data to guide long-term urban planning and policy formulation.

Urban planning experts have hailed the project as a transformative leap toward intelligent transport systems, aligning with the Smart City Kenya Programme and Vision 2030 objectives that prioritize technology-driven solutions for sustainable urban growth.

Under Eng. Kinoti’s leadership, KURA has continued to drive innovation, inclusivity, and efficiency in urban infrastructure development. The Smart Traffic Management Centre now stands as a landmark achievement — positioning Nairobi as a model for smart mobility and integrated urban management in the region.
