PS Roseline Njogu Strengthens Kenya–India Ties, Champions Support for Kenyans Abroad

Diaspora Affairs Principal Secretary Roseline Njogu has reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the welfare and dignity of Kenyans living abroad.

Speaking during a courtesy meeting with Kenya’s High Commissioner to India, Ambassador Peter Munyiri, Ms. Njogu expressed deep appreciation to the envoy and his team in New Delhi for their exemplary service to the Kenyan community. She particularly commended the High Commission’s swift and compassionate coordination in repatriating the remains of the late Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, who passed away while receiving treatment in India earlier this month.

The Principal Secretary emphasized that such collaboration underscores Kenya’s renewed focus on efficient, people-centered foreign service delivery that puts citizens first. She reiterated that the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs continues to prioritize the protection of Kenyans abroad through enhanced consular support, repatriation assistance, and legal aid for those in distress.

During their deliberations, the two officials discussed ways to strengthen legal aid frameworks for Kenyans facing legal challenges in India. Ms. Njogu underscored the importance of ensuring that every Kenyan, regardless of circumstance or financial capacity, has access to justice, fair representation, and humane treatment within host nations.

In a significant development, Amb. Munyiri announced that Indian authorities have granted a penalty waiver for overstayed visas covering the period between September 2025 and February 2026. The PS and the High Commissioner urged affected Kenyans to take advantage of this reprieve before the deadline, noting that it reflects the success of constructive diplomacy and mutual respect between Kenya and India.

Ms. Njogu further lauded the progress achieved under Kenya’s Diaspora Engagement Strategy, which aims to strengthen partnerships, foster citizen protection abroad, and enhance investment opportunities. She affirmed that her ministry remains committed to ensuring that every Kenyan in the diaspora feels valued, protected, and well-represented.

Her proactive leadership has positioned her as a pillar of integrity and excellence in public service. Through consistent engagement with missions, diaspora communities, and host governments, Ms. Njogu has restored confidence in Kenya’s external relations, embodying the government’s commitment to diplomacy rooted in compassion, accountability, and service to citizens.

As she continues to spearhead transformative reforms in diaspora affairs, Ms. Njogu’s tireless dedication stands as a testament to what visionary leadership can achieve — a Kenya that values its people both at home and abroad.
