Diani, Kwale County – The Harm Reduction Society Kenya (HRSK) is making its presence felt at the ongoing Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Annual Conference in Diani, using the national platform to champion evidence-based solutions to some of the country’s most pressing public health challenges.
Founded on the principle of replacing stigma with science, HRSK focuses on harm reduction in alcohol, cannabis, tobacco, and pesticide use. The society’s representatives at the conference are engaging legal practitioners, policymakers, and other stakeholders in conversations on safer alternatives and interventions that save lives without criminalizing users.
“Harm reduction is not about encouraging harmful behaviour – it’s about acknowledging reality and taking scientifically proven steps to minimize the risks,” an HRSK spokesperson said. “Whether it’s providing safer tobacco alternatives, promoting responsible alcohol use, or educating communities on pesticide safety, our aim is to protect lives.”
The LSK Conference, which has drawn hundreds of delegates from across the country, offers HRSK an opportunity to collaborate with the legal fraternity in shaping policies that support public health while respecting human rights.
HRSK’s work addresses “Kenya’s silent killers” by promoting prevention strategies rooted in evidence rather than judgment. Through research, advocacy, and public awareness, the society continues to push for policies that balance health, safety, and social justice.
