Glovo’s Nairobi Hub Pioneers Digital Transformation and Youth Empowerment in Kenya

Glovo, a leading multicategory app platform, hosted Abubakar Hassan, the Principal Secretary (PS) of the Ministry of Trade & Investment, State Department Investment Promotion, at its Real-Time Operations (RTO) Centre in Nairobi.

This visit, organized in collaboration with the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), marked a significant milestone as Glovo was officially awarded its KNCCI membership certificate during the event.

The event brought together key stakeholders, including members of KNCCI, Glovo’s General Manager and Director for Kenya, Caroline Mutuku, and Glovo’s Regional Head of Government and Public Relations for Sub-Saharan Africa, Chidera Akwuba.

Glovo used the platform to showcase its pivotal role in driving innovation, supporting SMEs, and contributing to Kenya’s socioeconomic growth.
The Nairobi RTO Centre, Glovo’s largest hub globally, has seen remarkable growth, expanding its team from just 9 to 160 agents, with plans to scale to over 300 in the next two years.

This hub manages real-time operations across all the 23 countries where Glovo operates, supported by a dedicated team of over 160 agents working around the clock. Its key functions include:
Centre of Excellence Team: Driving operational efficiency and delivering exceptional service experiences.
Global Acquisition Verification Team: Ensuring compliance and seamless onboarding for riders across multiple regions.

Country-Level Operations Desk: Offering localized language support in Arabic, French, and other languages for key markets, including Kenya, Uganda, Côte d’Ivoire, Morocco, and Tunisia.
During the tour, PS Abubakar Hassan acknowledged Glovo’s remarkable growth and its impact on Kenya’s e-commerce sector, highlighting the RTO Centre as a model of innovation driving digital and economic transformation.

With 70% of the businesses on its platform comprising SMEs, Glovo remains committed to empowering local enterprises to scale their operations, access broader markets, and thrive in the digital economy.

Caroline Mutuku, General Manager for Glovo Kenya, expressed her gratitude for the visit and emphasized the importance of creating employment opportunities for the youth.

“This visit reaffirms our commitment to fostering a thriving SME ecosystem and driving Kenya’s digital economy forward. With the youth comprising a significant segment of our workforce, we are proud to leverage the quality and availability of local talent across multiple skill sets and languages. Additionally, we encourage other global companies to consider establishing their hubs and shared services in Kenya, showcasing the country’s potential to lead in global innovation, while contributing to its socioeconomic growth.” Chidera Akwuba, Head of Public and Government Relations for Sub-Saharan Africa, emphasized Glovo’s broader mission—“Glovo’s partnerships with Kenyan businesses and stakeholders align with our vision of sustainable economic growth.
