Mwea MP Mary Maingi Nurtures Youth Talent Through Grassroots Football Tournament



It was a day of thrilling football encounters at Ngang’a Playground in Wamumu Ward, where teams from across Mwea Constituency battled it out in a spirited round of matches during the ongoing Mwea Constituency Football Tournament.

The tournament, spearheaded by Mwea Member of Parliament Hon. Mary Maingi, seeks to identify and nurture sporting talent while promoting youth empowerment, discipline, and community cohesion through football. The event drew large crowds of supporters who turned up to cheer their favorite teams, reflecting the growing passion for sports across the constituency.

Match Results:

  • Barcelona 5–4 Matithini (Penalties)
  • Kiandegwa 3–1 Ngang’a
  • Irrigation 1–0 Naivas
  • Semi-Finals: Barcelona 0–1 Irrigation; Kiandegwa 4–3 Matithini

Hon. Maingi commended the teams for their impressive performance, sportsmanship, and teamwork, noting that sports provide young people with opportunities for growth, leadership, and positive engagement.

“Sports are not just about competition — they build discipline, unity, and confidence among our youth. Through such initiatives, we are discovering and nurturing the next generation of champions from Mwea,” said Hon. Maingi.

The tournament continues to gain momentum, attracting more teams and fans each week. As the matches progress toward the finals, the initiative is set to further solidify Mwea’s position as a hub for grassroots sporting excellence.
