A joint directive from President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga has been issued to Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, instructing him to immediately dismiss two key officials from his administration: Chief of Staff David Njoroge and Osman Khalif.
The move, which came amid a brewing impeachment threat against Sakaja at the County Assembly, was revealed by Odinga, who attributed the political turmoil to the two officials.
Speaking to a section of Nairobi Members of County Assembly (MCAs), Raila stated, “You must fire Osman and David Njoroge—they are the problem. If you listen to what our MCAs are saying, all fingers point at them.”
Raila delivered a stern ultimatum, giving Governor Sakaja two months to address the grievances and “put his house in order.” He warned that a failure to do so would lead to the resumption of impeachment proceedings.
“You have two months to address these grievances. If not, we will not sit here again trying to stop your impeachment,” Raila reportedly said.
The intervention by the two national leaders, however, has drawn criticism from some of the very MCAs who initiated the impeachment motion. A section of the ward representatives has expressed disappointment, accusing Ruto and Odinga of shielding Sakaja from accountability. The MCAs argue that the directive is a political maneuver to protect the governor instead of allowing the county’s legislative process to hold him responsible for alleged mismanagement and corruption.
