Cabinet Secretary for Co-operatives and MSME Development Hon. FCPA Dr. Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya EGH and Principal Secretary Susan Mang’eni CBS today presided over the official launch of the National Organizing Committee for the 25th East African Community MSME Trade Fair. The ceremony took place at Sarova Stanley Hotel in Nairobi.
The formation of the committee marks a key step toward Kenya’s preparation to host this high-impact regional trade fair, which will bring together thousands of MSMEs from across the EAC region to network, trade, and build partnerships.
In his keynote address, CS Oparanya reiterated the government’s commitment to positioning MSMEs as the engine of inclusive economic growth. He emphasized that the trade fair offers an unmatched opportunity for Kenyan entrepreneurs to expand their footprint in the regional market.
“This trade fair is more than just an event. It is a movement to empower our MSMEs and showcase the true potential of African enterprise,” said Dr. Oparanya. “Through this committee, we are aligning policy, support structures, and opportunities to drive inclusive development.”
PS Susan Mang’eni noted that the committee would streamline coordination between government, counties, and MSME stakeholders. She emphasized inclusivity, innovation, and impact as the guiding principles of the 2025 edition.
“Our mission is clear to deliver a fair that not only celebrates MSMEs but also equips them for growth and integration into regional value chains,” said Mang’eni.
Key voices at the event included Mr. Richard Muteti, CEO of the Kenya National Federation of Jua Kali Associations and EAC Trade Fair Project Manager. Muteti championed stronger support for artisans and grassroots innovators, stressing that the trade fair is a lifeline for thousands of informal sector players seeking visibility and markets.
MSEA CEO Henry Rithaa was also recognized for his pivotal role in anchoring MSME development nationally. Rithaa highlighted MSEA’s commitment to capacity-building, financial inclusion, and technology adoption. He pledged the Agency’s full support in mobilizing MSMEs from all 47 counties to participate in the landmark 25th edition.
The event ended with a ceremonial group photo that reflected strong inter-agency collaboration and national resolve. Kenya’s hosting of the 2025 EAC MSME Trade Fair is expected to boost market access, regional trade integration, and economic empowerment for local enterprises.
