The Kenya Women Teachers Association (KEWOTA) will on Saturday, November 1, mark its sixth anniversary with a grand celebration at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Nairobi — a milestone highlighting six years of transformation, empowerment, and innovation under the visionary leadership of Chief Executive Officer Benter Opande.
Founded to advance the rights and welfare of women in education, KEWOTA has grown into a powerful movement promoting mentorship, advocacy, and economic empowerment for teachers across the country. This year’s celebration, themed “Digitizing Dignity,” will unveil a groundbreaking digital platform aimed at boosting women teachers’ financial inclusion, welfare access, and digital literacy.
“KEWOTA was born out of a vision to restore dignity, equality, and economic strength to women teachers,” said Ms. Opande. “Today, that vision expands as we embrace technology to create real opportunities for our members.”
Under her leadership, KEWOTA has forged strong partnerships with corporate players including Safaricom, APA Insurance, Kentainers, House of Polymers, and Irealion, amplifying its impact nationwide. The association now supports teachers in all 47 counties through career development, financial empowerment, and wellness initiatives.
Ms. Opande emphasized that KEWOTA’s next phase will focus on scaling digital transformation and ensuring no woman teacher is left behind. “Our journey is a testament to what women can achieve when united by purpose and vision,” she affirmed.
The anniversary event is expected to draw educators, policymakers, and corporate partners in celebration of women shaping Kenya’s educational future.
