NEMA Kenya Clinches Top Honours at Africa Public Service Awards 2025

Cape Town, South Africa — The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has once again positioned Kenya at the forefront of environmental governance after bagging three major awards at the 6th Africa Public Service Conference & Awards (APSCA 2025) held in Cape Town, South Africa.

NEMA was crowned Africa’s Best Environmental Agency of the Year and also received the Best Digital Transformation in Environment Regulatory Award in recognition of its innovation in adopting technology-driven systems to enhance environmental management and compliance.

In addition, NEMA’s Director General, Dr. Mamo B. Mamo, CBS, was named Africa’s Best Environmental Agency CEO of the Year — marking the second consecutive year he has received this distinguished honor.

The awards celebrate institutions and leaders who have demonstrated exemplary performance, innovation, and commitment to sustainable public service delivery across the continent.

Speaking after the recognition, Dr. Mamo reaffirmed NEMA’s commitment to advancing environmental protection, sustainable development, and climate action through effective regulation and stakeholder collaboration.

“This recognition reflects the dedication of our team and Kenya’s continued leadership in promoting a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment for all,” said Dr. Mamo.

The achievement underscores NEMA’s growing influence as a benchmark institution for environmental governance and digital transformation across Africa.
