The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has issued a stern warning to Nairobi Members of County Assembly (MCAs) over alleged plans to instigate unauthorized leadership changes at the County Assembly.
ODM Director of Political Affairs, Oduor Ongwen, cautioned the MCAs against pursuing agendas that were not discussed during a recent consultative meeting held at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation. The meeting, chaired by ODM party leader Raila Odinga, primarily focused on concerns surrounding Governor Johnson Sakaja’s performance and possible impeachment — not Assembly leadership changes.
“Leadership changes at the Nairobi County Assembly were not part of the discussions. Any MCA pushing such an agenda is acting against the party’s position and will face disciplinary consequences,” Ongwen warned.
He further alleged that certain MCAs were being influenced by external political forces aiming to destabilize the Assembly through confusion and theatrics.
“We are aware that some MCAs are being used by politicians to stir mayhem and create unnecessary leadership wrangles. That will not be tolerated,” he said.
Ongwen also criticized attempts by some members to scramble for leadership positions that are currently occupied.
“Some MCAs are busy chasing positions that are not even vacant. Raila Odinga knows what is best for the party and the country — he is not naïve. He works with leaders based on merit and vision,” Ongwen added.
