The Senior Counsel Bar (SCB) has ushered in a new era of leadership with the election of Philip K. Murgor, SC as Chairperson, Joyce Majiwa, SC as Vice-Chairperson, and Charles Kanjama, SC as Secretary.
The trio—respected legal heavyweights—were overwhelmingly endorsed by their peers and officially installed during the SCB’s annual retreat at Diamond Leisure Lodge in Diani on Wednesday, 13th August 2025.
Mr. Murgor steps into the top role following the retirement of Dr. Fred Ojiambo, SC, who has been at the helm since 2013, succeeding the late Hon. Mutula Kilonzo, SC. Dr. Ojiambo’s leadership team included the late Zahir Malik, SC, the late Ken Fraser, SC, and Omesh Kapila, SC. After the passing of Mr. Malik and Mr. Fraser, and Mr. Kapila’s retirement, Mr. Murgor took on the dual role of interim Vice-Chair and Organizing Secretary—a responsibility he executed with unwavering zeal.
More recently, Lucy Muthoni Kambuni, SC served as Secretary before handing over to Mr. Kanjama upon her retirement.
The SCB traces its leadership lineage back to Hon. Sitswila Amos Wako, SC, EGH, the Attorney-General Emeritus, who served as its first Chairperson in 2003.
As the gavel changes hands, the new leadership is expected to carry forward the SCB’s rich legacy while steering it into a new chapter of excellence in the legal fraternity.
