Three Arrested in Connection to Murder of Kilifi IEBC Official Aisha Abubakar

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested three suspects in connection with the brutal murder of Kilifi County IEBC official Aisha Abubakar on January 5, 2025. The suspects, identified as Isa Omari, Brian Shikuku Mudari, and Bryan Templer Oyare, were apprehended in separate but coordinated operations across the coastal region after a week-long manhunt.

According to investigators, the suspects are linked to a violent robbery that occurred at 3 a.m. on the fateful day. The attackers gained entry into the victim’s home by cutting through the kitchen window grills. Armed with crude weapons, they overpowered Ms. Abubakar and her son, knocking the latter unconscious before fatally stabbing the victim despite her desperate pleas for mercy.

The assailants fled the scene with valuables, including two Samsung phones, an iPad, a 65-inch TV, a sound system, and ATM cards, whose PINs they had forcibly obtained. Neighbors who heard the commotion rushed Ms. Abubakar to Premier Hospital in Nyali, but she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The investigation was spearheaded by DCI Kisauni, with support from the Operation Support Unit (OSU) and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau. After a meticulous forensic analysis, detectives tracked the suspects, recovering one of the stolen phones and other crucial evidence during the operation.

The three suspects are now in custody as investigations continue to unravel more details surrounding the crime. Authorities have assured the public that justice will be served for the tragic loss of Ms. Abubakar.
