Paul Okatwa Odhiambo’s football journey is one defined by passion, resilience, and an inspiring homecoming. Born in 1984 in Butere Constituency, Kakamega County, Okatwa rose from humble beginnings to become one of Kenya’s most recognizable striking midfielders. His talent and determination eventually earned him the coveted Harambee Stars jersey, securing his place among the country’s celebrated footballers.

During his playing career, Okatwa featured for several top Kenyan clubs including Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards, Tusker, Ushuru, Sofapaka, Muhoroni Youth, Posta Rangers, and Kakamega Homeboyz. Renowned for his sharp vision, creativity, and ability to dictate play, he left an indelible mark on every team he represented.

When the time came to hang up his boots, Okatwa’s transition into coaching was seamless—his influence on the pitch evolving into tactical brilliance on the sidelines. He began at Kangemi All Stars, helping the team avoid relegation in Division One. The following season, he guided them to an impressive second-place finish. His rising reputation led him to Nairobi United, a side struggling in 14th place after just four games. With determination and tactical insight, Okatwa transformed their fortunes, steering them to promotion into the National Super League and leaving them in 3rd place in their debut campaign.

Until recently, he served as head coach of Nairobi United, where he continued to mentor young talent and build a competitive side. His journey then brought him to Kakamega Homeboyz as assistant coach. When he joined, the team was bottom of the league in 18th place. With his input, they staged a remarkable turnaround to finish 3rd—a testament to his growing reputation as one of Kenya’s most promising young coaches.

Today, Okatwa has come full circle. He now serves as Head Coach of Exodus Butere Boys High School, his alma mater. Under his leadership, the team has reclaimed its footballing pride, securing a spot at the ongoing Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Association (FEASSA) Games in Kakamega County.

For the boys of Butere, Okatwa is more than just a coach—he is a mentor, a role model, and living proof that dreams born on the dusty fields of the village can blossom into national and even regional triumphs. His story is a reflection of football’s power to transform lives, inspire leaders, and strengthen communities.

As Butere Boys battle for glory at the East African Games, one truth stands out: Paul Okatwa Odhiambo’s journey has come full circle—shaping the next generation of footballers in the very place his own story began.
