Bunge La Mwananchi Unveils 2025 Agenda, Focuses on Youth Unity and Accountability

Grassroots social justice movement Bunge La Mwananchi has announced its 2025 agenda, with plans to launch a friendly football tournament aimed at uniting Kenyan youth.

Speaking at a meeting held on January 22, 2025, at the Jacaranda Grounds, Bunge President Francis Awino outlined the initiative, which will begin in Nairobi’s 17 constituencies before expanding to all 47 counties.

The football tournament seeks to foster unity and amplify the voices of young people in Kenya. “We are committed to ensuring all teams are provided with full uniforms before the tournament begins. Unity is our strength, and no one will divide us,” said Awino.

The movement reaffirmed its dedication to holding the government accountable for its promises and celebrated key achievements from 2024, including public awareness campaigns that reduced road accidents and community impact projects such as food donations.

Prominent member Joshua Orwa Omondi, popularly known as Omosh One Hour Jakababa, declared his intention to vie for the Karen Ward MCA seat in the 2027 elections. He called for the registration of Bunge La Mwananchi as a political party to provide a platform for young leaders with limited financial resources.

“At times, we lack organization and direction. We must unite under a common purpose to achieve success. A registered party can serve as a vehicle for youths aspiring for political positions,” said Omosh.

The group criticized elected leaders who fail to serve their constituents, singling out Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as among the few who consistently advocate for the people.

“We will weed out lazy, corrupt, and non-performing leaders. Looting instead of serving the people is unacceptable, even if it happens under the guise of collaboration between the opposition and the government,” said Kiberenge Junior, a Jacaranda Grounds member.

Bunge La Mwananchi also expressed support for Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Chairperson position in February 2025, offering prayers for his success.

The movement remains steadfast in its mission to unite the youth and hold leaders accountable, with 2025 shaping up to be a year of impactful initiatives and grassroots mobilization.
